1993

Lyle Small receives his bachelor of science degree in engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. As an undergraduate, he experiments with temperature sensitive materials such as inks. Just before graduation, he launches the company now known as Chromatic Technologies Inc.

1996

CTI is moved to Colorado Springs to allow employees to take full advantage of the area’s lifestyle, improved access to transportation and to capitalize on the region’s growing entrepreneurial environment. CTI’s commitment to inks technology is equaled by an established commitment to total, superior customer service.

1997

CTI achieves it first patent. During the next three years, two additional patents will be awarded to the company.

2002

Design and production work begin on a commemorative CD/DVD for the world-famous musical group Nirvana. When released, the CTI packaging application for the box set “With the Lights Out” would bring about worldwide attention for the small company providing innovative inks from Colorado Springs.

2007

CTI signs contract with Coors to provide temperature sensitive inks for the cans of Coors Brewing Company products. The inks will give rise to the slogan When the Mountains Turn Blue, It’s As Cold as the Rockies!™.

2009

The New York Times declares “Coors Light Uses Cold to Turn Up Heat on Rivals” thanks to ink technology for cans provided by CTI. The newspaper reveals that sales of Coors Light have increased for 15 consecutive quarters, making Coors Light one of the top selling light beers in America.

CTI founder Lyle Small is named “Inventor of the Year” by Colorado Springs Celebrate Technology.

2010

CTI expands its ink technologies into security and anti-counterfeiting capabilities, and healthcare (including cancer research). Its core business in beverages grows: in addition to the existing Coors contract which extends through 2015, CTI acquires new beverage customers Anheuser-Busch for U.S. products, Cerveza Atlas in Panama, Coca-Cola in Latin America and Pacifico Beer in Mexico.

In April, CTI moves nearby to a 25,000 square foot facility, achieving a two-fold increase in its manufacturing capabilities. The expansion provides much-needed room for manufacturing as well as offices for new personnel in sales, accounting, manufacturing, technical and the executive levels. It will also provide for planned future growth.

CTI President Lyle Small is named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Colorado Springs Celebrate Technology.
